Meet Lance Glibert- Stunt Man and Coordinator for Need For Speed

Need For speed movie Lance GlibertAfter the director yells “Action” a custom CCX must push and flip a CCXR 30 feet into the air – at NASCAR speed – while chasing another supercar. Sounds impossible right? Well it pretty much is, and to make things more challenging the driver only gets one shot at this. This is the life of Lance Gilbert – Stuntman, Stunt Coordinator and action designer for the upcoming Need For Speed movie.

Gilbert has been a stunt man for over 25 years; he has performed the spectator stunts for countless blockbusters including Gone in Sixty Seconds, The Fast and The Furious, xXx, The Final Destination, Terminator 3: The Rise of the Machines, Fast Five, Drive Angry and over 100 more. Being a stunt man is in Gilbert’s blood – his Grandfather was a stuntman as was his dad Mickey, and so are his brothers. The entire Gilbert family even had the chance to work together in Hawaii on the film Waterworld.

“Honestly, car work is the ultimate,” says Gilbert, “the whole goal with Need For Speed was to go as fast as we can.” Originally several of the stunts in the movie were going to be CGI, including the above mentioned car flip. He proved to the director that he could pull off these stunts using real cars. He got his crew together and fabricated special forks for the CCX so it could flip the car while driving at breakneck speeds.

Lance will be coordinating all of the the tire screeching, rubber burning, car crashing action for the film. The race scenes for movie will not only feature Supercars, but several ferocious musclecars like a Ford Torino GT, a Pontiac GTO and a Late Model Mustang.

Gilbert has been recently given the title of Outperformer from Royal Purple for his car related stunt work on various movies. Creating cinematic and dangerous car stunts is every boys dream; for Lance Gilbert life in the fast lane is just another day at the office. How many of you dreamed of being a stuntman when you were a kid?
