SEMA 2019: Motul Ramps Up With Domestics, RBF700, And NISMO Fluids

We stopped in at Motul during SEMA for insights on the latest direction and product focus for the company. Motul runs the European market and has a strong foothold on Imports here, but is still after a chunk of that domestic market. Motul also expanded its brake fluid line to include the new RBF700 for extreme race applications.

Now, the company continues to dive into the private label and OEM world, meaning the fluids and lubricants you pick up at the dealer are designed to perform optimally. They are race-ready, despite the myth that dealer-level fluids are sub-par rebranded products.

“We partnered with SpeedKore, who built the 1,500 horsepower Challenger, the fastest in the world, to get our booth noticed. Sure, we still do Le Mans race cars, but offer products for high-horsepower domestic muscle car builds too,” – Nolan Browning, Brand Manager

“We are well known in countries overseas, but here, not many notice us,” says Nolan Browning, brand manager. “Here, the largest market is domestics, so we are looking to increase that presence. It was never really the right time. But recently, we partnered with SpeedKore, who built the 1,500 horsepower Challenger, the fastest in the world, to get our booth noticed. Sure, we still do Le Mans race cars, but offer products for high-horsepower domestic muscle car builds too. So Mustang owners, for example, are curious about our Ford-approved products along with all domestic manufacturers standards we meet.”

Motul is the official oil for Radical Sportscars, including the new Rapture, also in the booth at SEMA. This is a road-legal car (in Europe), and Motul supplies the oil and fluid program for the brand since a Ford 2.3L Ecoboost powers it. Motul doesn’t stop there, as it has secured more well-respected brands like NISMO. The motorsports arm of Nissan offers track and competition-ready products, and a few Motul-manufactured ones were on display at SEMA.

Motul is the official oil for Radical Sportscars, including the new Rapture. It supplies the oil and fluid for the brand since a Ford 2.3L Ecoboost powers it.


We saw many NISMO Competition oil weights like 0W-30, and the one we use at track days, the 15W-50 in a high-revving RB26 GT-R twin-turbo motor. The Motul gear oil is found in all Nissan GT-Rs from the factory in the transmission, transfer case, and diff too. Best of all, these products have Nissan part numbers. They can be ordered at the local dealer with no runaround online or local speed shop that has nothing but popular weights or nothing at all. 

We saw many NISMO Competition oil weights like 0W-30 and 15W-50. The Motul gear oil is also found in all Nissan GT-Rs from the factory in the transmission, transfer case, and diff too.

Motul is a premium brand, so it isn’t necessarily after the larger portion of the market headed to a big-box store, a sector it understands is resistant to change. But, they have noticed as domestic cars, V8-builds, and power-adders get more high-tech, the drivers are savvy on the internet. As their vehicles are pushed to the limits of performance, they will look for better-performing products from the oil and lubricants Motul offers up to the RBF line of Racing Brake Fluid Motul manufacturers, which many will say is the best available for the track.

“We have the RBF600, which is run in all kinds of Porsches, GT-Rs, and the like. But, we also have RBF660 and just added an RBF700 for Europe, too,” says Browning. “That’s more top-level racing use, and the cost is up there, so racers rely on 600 or 660 but can get 700-degree-F-capable brake fluid if you want it.”

The Motul RBF600 racing brake fluid is run all kinds of Porsches and GT-Rs with success, but RBF660 is available and it just added an RBF700 too, for extreme racing applications.

One of the most interesting parts of our conversation with Motul was the claim of up to a 3-percent-horsepower increase just by switching oil to Motul, based on their tests. That is a test scenario we would like to replicate because if the price of the oil can net us noticeable power by reducing friction and heat, we are game for it.
