SEMA 2018: ididit Performance Steering Columns For Racing

Like many others, we were under the false impression that popular steering column manufacturer ididit, only made columns for hot rods and street rods. Imagine our surprise when we caught up with company spokesperson, Stacey Discher, at the 2018 SEMA show with a new line of racing steering columns.

According to Discher, “The performance columns are a lightweight steering column that is made for the race car enthusiasts. In addition to being lightweight – the Pro-Fab line is half the weight of standard ididit columns – they are specifically designed for performance and racing. The Pro-Light line has all the bells and whistles.”

The Pro-Fab is a stripped down version of the Pro-Lite column.

The Pro-Light version of the ididit performance columns are currently offered for the Chevy Nova (1962-66), Ford Mustang (1965-66), and Chevy Camaro (1967-75). Weighing less than six-pounds, these steering columns can be taken on the track, off-road, or to any other competition, and ididit claims that you’ll never sacrifice function for performance.

The Pro-Lite version is loaded with all the creature comforts of a standard column, and Discher said that “you can seamlessly transition from the track to the streets.” Features include self-canceling turn signals, 4-way flashers, horn wiring, 3 7/8-inch wiring plug. These columns also collapse a full five-inches for enhanced driver safety. They install easily using the original dash mount and ididit’s plug-in wiring connectors.

The performance side of the column is designed to work with most quick-release steering wheel hubs, although steering wheel adaptors are sold separately. Discher reminded us that the quick-release steering hub is SFI certified. These units come with a standard matte black finish that is durable and attractive.

The Pro-Fab line is a stripped down version without the turn signal selector lever. Built strictly for racing applications, the ultra-lightweight Pro Fab series of steering columns weigh under 4.5 pounds, use the factory dash mount and factory immediate shaft for easy install. The 3/4-inch smooth shaft allows for mounting of a quick-release steering wheel. This series is not designed or intended for street use. Currently available for Acura Integra (1994-01), Honda Civic (1992-00), and Ford Mustang (1979-04).
