When it comes to differentials, Eaton is one of the best known brands in automotive performance. Its line includes such stalwarts as the Eaton Detroit Locker, Eaton Detroit TrueTrac, and the Eaton Posi. Each year, it becomes a challenge to improve upon the tried-and-true differentials the company already produces. This year the move was to make a natural extension of their already popular products. Enter the Ring-and-Pinion Street Series and Competition Series gearsets.
According to company spokesman Tony Truelove, the brand new gearsets “will be available this year in the most popular applications in the market. These include the Ford 8-inch and 9-inch differentials, the GM 10-bolt and 12-bolt, as well as the Dana 60- and Dana 70-series differentials.”
The street series ring-and-pinion gearsets are made in the U.S.A. from high-quality 8620 or 4320 steel, which provides long life under daily-use conditions. “An optional Super Finish is available which eliminates the need for break-in,” added Truelove.
The Competition Series ring-and-pinion gearsets are also made in the U.S.A. from high-quality 9310 steel, which provides the higher-impact resistance needed at the track. Like the street series ring-and-pinion gearsets, the competition series can be ordered with the patented super finish process that eliminates friction, increases horsepower, and eliminates the need for break-in.
