An impressive 47 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship entries have committed to participate in the annual Roar Before the 24 three-day test session. The Roar test will be held on the same on the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway combination oval and road configuration as the 57th Rolex 24 at Daytona on the weekend of January 24th through 27th. The Daytona 24 Roar test on January 4-6 is compulsory for all teams entered.
Of the 47 cars on the provisional Roar entry list, 37 have confirmed plans to compete full-time in the 2019 WeatherTech Championship for the entire season, meaning that each event in the series is certain to feature a highly-competitive field.
The premier Daytona Prototype international (DPi) class features 11 total entries from Cadillac, Acura, Mazda, and Nissan. The Pro-Am LMP2 class features four ORECA chassis all powered by Gibson 4.2-liter V8 engines.
The GT Le Mans (GTLM) class features nine race cars from BMW, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Ford, and Porsche. The GT Daytona (GTD) class again boasts the largest number of entries with 23 FIA GT3-spec race cars on the roster from Acura, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes-AMG , and of course, Porsche.
On-track testing starts at 11 a.m. ET on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019. The DPi, GTLM and LMP2 classes will have a total of seven practice sessions between Jan. 4 and Jan. 6, with five practice sessions set for the GTD class on Jan. 4-5.
