Wilwood is well known for its brake calipers, rotors, and accessories like handbrakes, lines, and fluids. But, did you know about its racing hub and spindle product line? While braking systems and components might make the majority of sales, Wilwood saw an opportunity in motorsports to manufacture the parts that its systems interface with — the hubs and spindles.
While fine for OEM duty, many stock hub assemblies are built to be inexpensive and for longevity, but Wilwood ramped up these often overlooked parts and made them ready for the torture of racing. Wilwood now offers a forged aluminum front hub assembly for the Mazda Miata to fit both NA and NB chassis spanning from 1990 to 2005.
The Mazda Miata NA and NB chassis are popular track cars, spec racers, and autocross weapons, but they are equipped with a simple one-piece hub design. The stock Miata hub is a sealed bearing part that flexes when it deals with the higher loads of extreme cornering. Wilwood ProHubs for Miata NA and NB are specifically designed with a spindle-collar with a lock-nut system that features a wider-spaced inner and outer tapered roller bearing to handle these increased cornering loads.
Constructed of forged aluminum, the ProHub is stronger than the original design but weighs only 2.38-pounds per side. The Miata ProHub kit is a direct bolt-on, including hubs, bearings, seals, wheel studs, self-locking spindle nuts, and o-ring seal hub caps. The design is compatible with the stock brake system or any aftermarket brake kit made for the NA and NB Mazda Miata.
For any racer who doubles as crew-chief and mechanic too, the regular maintenance and lubrication of the bearing is fast and easy. The ProHub is an easily removable replacement part and features manual, infinite pre-load adjustment per your specifications.
Designed for racing, the Wilwood ProHub for 1990-2005 Mazda Miata MX-5 NA and NB chassis retails for only $699. The measurable improvement over basic steel OEM hubs (which is 15- to 30-years old now) is ready for any track or autocross event with proven Wilwood engineering to back it up.
