No matter what type of musclecar fan you are, you have to respect the power and presence of the Dodge Viper. The unique Detroit heritage that this American made supercar possesses has given the Viper name a place that will be forever etched in American muscle car history.
With the Dodge Viper program officially ending this year, a piece of that history will sadly be missed. But a group of die-hard Viper fans are making one last attempt to ensure the Dodge Viper’s legacy is never forgotten.
The fans have set up a GoFundMe page dedicated to raising enough money to get the Viper back to the Nurburgring for its final year of development. Their goal; to shatter the old Viper record that was set back in September of 2011 and show that a completely stock, naturally aspirated American made muscle car can still compete with its European rivals at the world-famous Nurburgring.
Last week, the official video of their first attempt was captured by FoxProFilms showing SRT factory driver Dominik Fambacher running the ‘Ring in a bone stock 2017 Viper ACR and clocking an official lap time of 7:03.45!
To put things in perspective, in 2011, the Dodge Viper’s official time was 7:12:13. This new official time gives the American made Viper the title as being the fastest American built production car to lap the Nurburgring.
And based on the latest update on their GoFundMe page, the team will be headed back to “The Green Hell” in a few weeks to attempt a sub 7 minute time in the stock Viper. The team has managed to book 3.5 hours of track time this month to attempt this feat.
The team has their sights set on beating the Porshe 918 Spyder’s time of 6:57.00, which held the lap record for an impressive four years until the Lamborghini Huracan Performance set a blistering fast lap time of 6:52.01 back in March. Of course, the new king of the ‘Ring is McLaren, whose P1 LM ran a 6:43 in May of this year.
Do you think the American made Viper has what it takes to take back the ‘Ring record this month? With the Viper program closing its doors for good at the end of this month, it would make us proud to see the Dodge Viper add another impressive track record at the Nurburgring.
