There’s no question that Rally is one of the most dangerous, technical motorsports out there, but these two rally drivers really show the passion and determination to win.
Patrick Richard and co-driver Alan Ockwell were tearing through one of the stages of the Rally Baie Des Chaleurs when disaster struck; Richard took a right turn too tightly and clipped a mound of dirt, putting the car up on two wheels, and ultimately flipping over into the trees on the other side of the road. Richard and Ockwell were both okay, but Richard knew that the car wasn’t totaled and that he could aggressively limp it to the finish line if he were to get the car flipped back over.
The video shows Richard tugging on the car to get it to budge, and then it finally tips back onto its wheels. Some very humble spectators lent a helping hand which made it a lot easier for Richard to get the car upright. Once the car was back on its wheels, it was easy to see that the front suspension was damaged, as well as the windshield and other parts of the car, but Richard and Ockwell pressed on with the stage.
Before Richard and Ockwell approach the stage’s finish line, another competitor crosses the line first. Richard and Ockwell crossed the line very shortly after, winning the stage by less than a second.
Although this video is a couple of years old, it does a great job of showing the determination and hard work that a rally driver puts in during a race. They knew the car was damaged, but also knew they had nothing left to lose, so they pressed on courageously.
