Pro Touring AMC’s are a rare breed, which is what makes Wayne Davis’ Sliver Bullet an amazing sight. His 1973 AMC AMX Javelin is one of the sweetest looking machines to ever grace the road. It’s silver paint job combined with the lowered stance flow well with the Javelin’s sleek body lines, creating a futuristic appearance.

On the cars appearance, the owner Wayne Davis states “I suppose any car can look goofy if they don’t have the right wheels and stance, but this particular body style is downright ugly if it’s not set up right.” Car calender quality looks aren’t this AMX’s only claim to fame, it’s a real performer too.

An AMC 401ci mill resides underneath the lid, it has been torn down and rebuilt for speed. It has been bored .30 over so more juice can fill the cylinders. Internally, Weisco forged pistons are connected to AMC forged rods which turn a forged crankshaft. Inside of the block is a Comp Cams Extreme Energy Camshaft which turns a Comp Cams timing chain which is wrapped around Bulltear billet pulleys.

On top of the block is an Edelbrock Thunder Series 750 cfm carburetor, which delivers the juice into an Edelbrock Air Gap intake manifold while a Mallory ignition lights the fires. The motor is tied to a Torque Command 727 transmission with a shift kit that runs to a rear Detroit Locker. The motor exhales its fumes through out a set of Hedman long tube headers.

WSC adjustable coilovers and roadrace rear shocks let the Javelin handle like it’s on rials. A Gymkhana front and rear sway bar prevent the driver from losing control while a Control Freak IFS with the Flaming River rack and pinion keep the car smooth above 120 MPH. Aerospace Components Pro Street disc brakes with 13 inch cross drilled rotors on all four corners bring the car to a standstill.

The cars silver bullet looks is achieved thanks to it’s 2009 GM Greystone paint job. Grey Yonaka leather seats, a racing steering wheel and a carbon fiber dash which houses the original factory gauges and the throttle shifter give the interior a race ready look. What we love about these AMC Javelins is how they look so subtle but still manage to stand out in a crowd.

Davis has been obsessed with AMC’s since his cousin brought home a Javelin in 1969. He was 15 years old at that time, and he waxed the Javelin for his cousin just to be around that machine. He has spent the last 40 years restoring and racing AMC’s of his own in various motorsports from drag racing to road racing.

Wayne built Silver Bullet not only for show but to replicate the spirit of the early 70’s AMC SCCA Trans Am race cars, most noticeably SCCA road racer Mark Donohue. The concept behind Bullet is that of a street car Donohue would have driven.

The Javelin isn’t alone… it gets to enjoy a replica Mark Donahue car during open track days, too.

It was no surprise that he would build a street legal Javelin that can hold it’s own during an autocross and road course. Silver Bullet looks and performs great and acts as the flagship car for Wayne’s brand: Colorado AMC Motorsports.
