Reviva Teams Up With DeatschWerks For The Red Pig 2

Racing in the Optima USCA competition is a grueling event that tests both man and machine. While this competition is geared for street cars, the competitors push the limitations of power and grip to the edge trying to get an edge whenever possible. During these races, weak links are often discovered and then fixed, leaving the car more capable than before.

Recently Josh Stahl, owner of Reviva, built a vintage 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL dubbed the Red Pig 2 for the sole purpose of racing in the USCA while showcasing the companies 6.2-liter high-performance crate engines. While there first outing looked promising, the car was sidelined with fuel pump issues. The aftermarket pump was generating so much heat that the pump would just shut off, leaving the Red Pig 2 stranded until it had time to cool down. As you can imagine, any vehicle with fuel problems is not going to make the cut with any performance competition, and Stahl needed a solution.

The team reached out to DeatschWerks (DW) for a solution to their fueling woes. The DW crew recommended a single DW400 in-tank fuel pump for the Reviva 607 horsepower naturally aspirated LS powerplant. The DW400 pump cranks out 415 liters-per-hour (LPH) at 40 psi and is rated for 1,000 horsepower on gasoline and 750 horsepower on E85. This pump outflows DW’s closest competitor by 31-percent on average from 70-100 psi and is only 46mm’s in diameter. DW worked in collaboration with Bosch exceeding SAEJ1537 specifications while offering a three-year warranty.

After the new DW400 fuel pump was fitted in the custom fuel cell with the addition of a DW regulator, the Red Pig 2 and crew headed back to the track for a day-long test session. The DW400 not only cured all of the fueling issues of the car, but it also ran better. Tom Dokken, head of Engineering and New Product Development of Reviva, said, “Fantastic news! We finished the installation of the DW400 fuel pump and took it straight to the track Monday. The car ran AWESOME. No issues starting or during tip-in and tip-out on the throttle, and overall the car ran better. We were very pleased with it and enjoyed about 3 hours of on-track time without touching the fuel system.”

We look forward to seeing Josh Stahl and the Red Pig 2 competing this year in Optima’s USCA competition. Click here more information on Reviva’s engine program and check out deatschwerks.com for more details on the DW400 fuel pump and other products.
