Performance Distributors LiveWires For NA, NB And NC Mazda Miata MX5

You bought a Miata for one thing — to tear around the corners for not a lot of money with a reliable platform. Sure, spark might be getting to your engine, but through wires that could be dating back to the President Bush Sr. era. How much are you leaving on the table with your wheezing 4-banger not getting the spark it deserves?

Performance Distributors knows a few things about igniting air/fuel mixtures and they have developed LiveWires spark plug wires for the Mazda Miata market with new NA, NB, and NC applications. Not only do they meet and exceed current ignition demands, but also future plans too, should they include boosting with a turbo, for example.

These engineered spark plug wires are a low-resistance design aiming to deliver maximum spark to the plug. The insulated sleeve further protects the integrity of the spark from excessive heat with a glass braided material, similar to those on oven doors. With a proven heat resistance of more than 1,400-degrees F, the wires are never going to be an issue because, at those temps, you will have much bigger problems going on in the engine bay!

Inside the braided sleeve is a unique 8mm spiral core wire wrapped in a durable silicone jacket. This stainless steel wire uses proprietary technology to wrap around the magnetic core, which has both radio noise suppression (to reduce interference) and boasts a low resistance of 300-350 Ohms. Bottom line is that spark power is virtually the same from the coil to plug.

Since these wires are tailored for Miata application, they are numbered and precisely lengthed for the Mazda roadster. For TURNology, we stuck a set on our NC Miata, in purple of course, to match the fabulous purple exterior. Installation was a snap using all factory routing and clips, then adding a bit of supplied dielectric grease on all metal connections.

Our stock Miata was a direct fit, BUT check this out — if you have any custom configurations, Performance Distributors LiveWires can be custom-ordered. That’s right, custom, and when we heard the extra cost for said custom wires, we couldn’t believe it. At only $20 for custom wires that is a solid value because you can’t get anyone to do anything for 20-bucks these days.

Performance Distributors LiveWires for Miatas are available in: Black, Blue, Orange, Green, Purple, Red, Silver, and Yellow. And they only cost $115-$129, depending on color. The warranty is one year, and they are available directly through its site
