Nissan And Gran Turismo Are In Search Of The Best Gamers Out There

From multiple iterations of Grand Theft Auto, to the now eight-movie-long Fast and Furious series we all know and love, if you are like myself (and a large majority of the rest of the car community), car themed movies and video games naturally came along with your lifelong passion for all things automotive.

In addition to the recently announced (and highly anticipated, might I add) Forza Horizon 4 coming out later this year, the latest media news headlines a brand new title of the famous Gran Turismo. The PlayStation 4’s Gran Turismo Sport features the first-ever online racing championship officially backed by the FIA – and let’s just say, things are totally as serious as we make them sound.

Nissan is looking for the next generation of fast PlayStation gamers with a new program that gives thousands of racers the chance to compete in an official FIA championship.

Much like motorsports, enjoying video games is one thing, but being extremely good at them now opens up a whole new world of competition. There are more than bragging rights with your latest Instagram “win” post on the line this time, as Nissan is currently on the look out for the best drivers online, through the Gran Turismo Sport game.

The top player driving a Nissan in-game will not only win a trip to the famous NISMO Festival at Fuji International Speedway in Japan, but also to the headquarters in which the video game was developed. Out of thousands of participants, the selected candidate will then have the chance to compete in the official FIA Championship… yes, in real life!

“Some of the fastest drivers in the world might never have had the opportunity to compete on a race track if it weren’t for gaming,” Nissan’s Global Motorsport Director, Michael Carcamo, explained. [Some of] these guys have gone from the couch to the cockpit and broken the traditional model of how to become a successful racing driver.”

“The level of competition is incredibly fierce. And we’re now seeing that online racing is not only an alternative to the real thing. — Michael Carcamo, Nissan Global Motorpsorts
