The 2018 running of the Tire Rack One Lap of America is in the history books, and after 3,459 miles in just one week, winners were crowned and losers began to make excuses. One team that isn’t making any excuses is the trio of Brandon Ranvek, Ronnie Soliman, and Andy Smedegard who crammed themselves into a 2006 Mitsubishi Evo IX, enduring each other’s body odor and fast-food farts for seven days straight. When the checkered flag fell, after nine different stops at multiple tracks for time trial events, Ranvek, Soliman, and Smedegard picked up a class win in the Mid-Priced Sedan class.
“This is a great vindication for us, as we finished 3rd in 2017, due to missing five rounds after suffering mechanical issues.” said Brandon Ranvek. “It’s a nice rebound to be first-in-class this year.” Besides winning their class, the team also finished 8th overall out of seventy-one teams who competed in the 35th running of One Lap of America, an event inspired by the illegal road race from the ’70s: The Cannonball Run.
One Lap teams, referred to as Lap Dogs, must compete on a single set of D.O.T. street-legal tires for the long road trip through the South and MidWest. Ranvek, Soliman, and Smedegard chose to run on a set of 315/30R18 Falken AZENIS RT615k+ tires. Those donuts held up for the entire road trip, which assisted them in earning some blistering lap times to help them win their class. “All of us at Falken Tires are proud of what Brandon, Ronnie, and Andy did on the One Lap of America,” stated Falken Manager of Motorsports and Events, Jonathon Bradford. “It’s a true example of camaraderie, stamina, and durability — equally shared by people, cars, and tires. Our Falken AZENIS tires truly hold up to all types of competition and shine when put to the test.”
Congratulations to all the winners!
