When looking for a cheap, fun to drive car the frequent answer is an MX-5 Miata. While the Miata is definitely a drivers car that tickles all the senses, it might be hard to justify owning one because of its size. Granted, the small size of the Miata is really what makes the car so light and nimble, but what happens when you need to use it for real life? Well for one craigslist owner who wanted the best of both worlds, managed to create a Frankenstein Miata that is both fun and (questionably?) functional as a pickup.
Uh, wow that is certainly something, isn’t it? To the seller’s credit, we can see why the added storage space seemed needed since the MX-5 trunk has the capacity to hold about three neatly folded t-shirts and a one hat. Thinking back we recall years ago driving with Mom, soft top down and luggage stacked all over as we rushed to the airport with the heater blasting during winter visits to Grandma’s house. Perhaps this seller experienced the same dilemma and thought, “You know what? I can totally fix this problem.” Impressively, the seller claims that it only has 22,000 original miles albeit a salvage title. Salvage title? Actually, that gets us thinking. Maybe this Miata wasn’t supposed to be a pickup conversion, but just like a Superhero in the comics, it evolved into a cross-breed of two cars after a horrific accident. Bent and broken, the Miata slowly healed but was tainted by the DNA of the pickup that crashed into it. Granted, we don’t know why this Miata has a salvage title, but it’s our best (not so educated) guess.
We tried to contact the seller of the car, but there was no luck on a phone chat. A message was left however, so if we hear back we’ll update the post on the real answer of why this custom MX-5 Miata pickup was created. Oh craigslist, may you never let us down in our never ending quest of things we just don’t need.
