Callaway Debuts Corvette C7 GT3-R And New Drivers At PRI

Callaway Competition has officially taken the wraps off their new Corvette C7 GT3-R at this year’s PRI show. Destined to compete in the 2018 Pirelli World Challenge, the car will be piloted by Daniel Keilwitz and Michael Cooper for the season.

Two Corvettes will be produced and are based largely on the production C7 Corvette, though many modification have been made to both the engine and chassis. This is the second year the C7 GT3-R will compete in the Pirelli World Challenge and will contend in the GT class in the sprint races, as well as the SprintX races which represent a longer distant format and require drivers to trade off.

Keilwitz is no stranger to the Callaway program as he clinched his first FIA GT3 European Championship with the team as far back as 2010. A second championship came in 2013 before he made the leap to competing with the team in the U.S. While all of the track on the Pirelli World Challenge circuit will be new to Keilwitz, the Callaway team says they have the utmost confidence in their European driver.

The 2018 calendar year will represent the first year that the Callaway C7 GT3-R will compete in the United States. They will be going up against stiff competition in the Pirelli World Challenge but will help fill the void left by Cadillac Racing as they exited PWC after the 2017 to shift its focus to its Daytona Prototype efforts with the DPi-V.R.

They are big shoes to fill for sure, but if anyone has the chops to do it, it’s definitely Callaway. Only time will tell how the season goes for the team, but we have no doubt that the Corvette will be at the very least competitive. Stay tuned as we follow along when PWC hits the street of Saint Petersburg, Florid March 9-11.
