PRI 2017: Chassisworks gStreet IRS Offers Exceptional Handling

Chris Alston’s Chassisworks featured a new gStreet independent rear suspension for muscle cars and custom applications. Promising to deliver high performance in cornering, acceleration, and braking, this new IRS is 1,500 horsepower capable. To make sure that the power actually makes it to the ground, they’ve developed this to accept tire sizes of 345/30R20…and even larger.

This new gStreet IRS is offered as a replacement back-half, or full chassis system. Utilizing a robust, mandrel-bent 4×2″ frame clip with fully boxed 2×2″ suspension mounting crossmembers and fabricated upper cradle, Chassisworks made sure this would be usable for nearly any application your muscle car is subjected to. Also featured with this system is Chassisworks FAB9 center section fitted with a series of six poly bushing mounts to ensure the assembly is held in place, while reducing high frequency vibration and unwanted road noise.

There is two different suspension configurations available, a traditional lower control arm mounted coilover, or the more extreme option of a rocker arm actuated, trunk floor mounted coilover which reduces unsprung weight and increases road holding ability. Chassisworks tells us that the gStreet is the premier option when choosing an IRS system, and is available in four hub-to-hub widths (54, 56, 58, and 60″).

In an attempt to maintain correct and consistent suspension geometry the gStreet IRS has all suspension mounts tied directly to the frame with suport from deflection-free spherical bearings. This keeps handling neat and tidy during hard cornering and acceleration, and allows for consistent performance no matter the suspension load. They currently offer vehicle specific chassis and floor kits for the 1967-1981 Camaro, and 1964-1979 Mustang.
