Acura NSX Dressed To Impress, Ready To Race

Why is it cars always look cooler when they are dressed for racing? Case in point: These Acura NSX gems from Acura Motorsports and Michael Shank Racing. This dynamic duo will make their debut at the Rolex 24 later this month and compete in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for 2017.

We love the mirror image liveries of the cars and can’t wait to see them at speed in Daytona. The Michael Shank Racing driver lineup has Graham Rahal, Andy Lally, Katherine Legge, and Mark Wilkins in the #93 Acura NSX GT3, and Ryan Hunter-Reay, Ozz Negri, Jeff Segal, and Tom Dyer competing in the #86 car.

The production model Acura’s innovative hybrid powertrain features three electric motors and a midship-mounted twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that produces a combined output of 573 horsepower with impressive 21 MPG city, 22 MPG highway fuel efficiency.

She’s an expensive date with an MSRP of $156,940, but we have heard of early sales with substantial mark-ups, pushing the total to more than $200,000. Yikes. This puts the sleek second-generation NSX in some lofty company, namely the McLaren 570S/570GT at $201,450, the Audi R8 at $164,150, and the Mercedes Benz AMG GT/GT-S at $132,125, to name a few.

Race versions of the NSX will be powered only by the turbo V6, which is more stock than one would expect and configured to meet FIA GT3 regulations. The driveline has been fortified with a race-spec six-speed sequential gearbox in place of the nine-speed DCT found in the production version. There are also the prerequisite aero and suspension mods in place.

It will be interesting to see how these supercars stack up on the street and the track.
